Apple Event

Yes, it is rumored, and semi-confirmed that Apple will be hosting an event on February 1, 2007!!!! The invite (shown below)… features a globe with the words “Should Old Acquaintance be forgot…”; this is evidently something about Mac OS X Leopard, and the invite talking about Time Machine which backs up your Mac OS X install. So will we be seeing Leopard next thursday…. I would say so! The event is said to be held at the Moscone West Conference Center on February 1, 2007 at 11:00a.

MacWorld 2007

First off Steve talked about the new addition to the iTunes Store, Paramount Pictures. He also discredited the rumors that the iTunes Store has been loosing purchasers and revenue, he explained that the store receives around 3 Million Purchases every day. Next Steve announced the final specifications for the iTV (know now as Apple TV). Apple TV has a built in 40 Gigabyte hard drive which will auto-sync your iTunes library with Apple TV and vise versa. You will be able to stream from up to 5 computers in your house to the Apple TV and view movie trailers, and more. http://www.apple.com/appletv/ for more information. Apple TV will be available in February 2007, but the Apple Store online is already taking pre-orders.

Next was a very amazing thing that Steve announced, one of the biggest announcement that I have ever heard from Apple. The Apple iPhone (yes, that is its official name), is an amazing little device that lets you make calls, conference calls, use an amazing new voicemail feature, and more. The phone (which will be released June 2007) will sell in two models, 4 Gig – $499, 8 Gig – $599. It is a GSM Phone, at the keynote Cingular was the only partner for the phone. The phone runs a mini Mac OS X that includes Mail, Safari, Dashboard, Photo Manager (for the 2.0 Mpx built-in camera), and iPod. The phone is a wide-touch-screen that allows you to use your fingers to navigate around the beautiful interface.

Apple also announced they will be changing their name, something that hasn’t been done since the company was founded in 1976. They will change from Apple Computer, Incorporated to Apple, Incorporated.
